NSW approves V8 Street Car racing in Olympic Park over community objections. Key among the issues is the permanent damage to the park and to its world class reputation as an ecologically sustainable precinct. The Govt. plans to waste upto $90 million on this event over 5 years. Problems include the loss of 489 trees with upto 1000 tress under potential threat, demolishing and rebuilding of 3.5 km of road and causing unnecessary disruptions and road closures for upto 10 weeks.

The nation’s leaders are abandoning public vocational education and training without community consultation. Under a Council of Australian Governments (COAG) proposal, the TAFE system would be starved of funds and eventually replaced by a series of private providers, increasingly funded by fees through HECS-like loans, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
