Spending your bonus Sustainably

Filed under: Greens — Parramatta Greens @ 6:47 pm

The government has been giving money in various forms to tax payers to try and stimulate the economy. The Greens believe a more sustainable way to spend the money is on the local renewable energy industry.

Some ways include:

Solar Water Heaters: Water heaters tyically consume upto 30% of a household’s electricity usage. Using a solar water heater can cut down on that expense very quickly. The Australian Federal Government offers a rebate of upto $1600 if replacing electric storage. The NSW Local Govenrment also offers subsidies for a limited time. Cost can be very small to nil after the subsidies. Contact your local Solar shop for costs.
Solar Power Systems: Soalr Power Systems can be installed on rooftops of homes in a matter of days. Installations pay for themselves in a few years. The Australian Federal and NSW Local Govenrments offer subsidies for a limited time. Cost much smaller after the subsidies. Some banks offer Green loans at reduced interest rates as well. Contact your local Solar shop for costs.

Insulation: The Federal Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package offers free ceiling insulation worth up to $1,600 to all Australian home owner-occupiers of currently uninsulated homes. (However, this is not available to any home-owners taking advantage of the $1600 solar HWS rebate). Both home-occupiers as well as investors may be eligible for the rebate.
