Serving All Residents

Now that we new City of Parramatta councillors have just completed our schedule of informative induction workshops and completed our first ordinary Council meeting, I have been able to reflect on our hectic first month on the job.

First, I would like to thank all who exercised their democratic right to vote for their council representatives, including for me as the first Greens councillor for Parramatta.

This opportunity was welcome after being denied the right to vote in 2016 as a result of our council amalgamation with a government appointed administrator. Next, I want to reflect on the oath or affirmation all councillors make to "undertake the duties of the office of Councillor in the best interests of the people of the Parramatta Local Government Area".

I take this commitment very seriously and look forward to sending all residents consistent with principles set out in the Local Government Act.

As a Green, I am particularly pleased to note these principles include the need for decisions to be transparent, recognise diverse local community needs, and to consider social justice and ecologically sustainable development principles.
